Department of Technologies and Equipment for Materials Processing from a Romanian University is searching for a partner to apply for funding in the next call M.Era-Net 2024. 

The project aims to develop a new class of geopolymer composites that integrate phase change materials (PCM) incorporated into the composition of artificial aggregates (Aa). Two technologies will be developed: (i) one for the manufacture of Aa that will incorporate PCM, and (ii) one for the manufacture of geopolymer composites that will integrate the developed Aa. These advanced materials will be manufactured through eco-friendly technology that uses recycled minerals rich in Al and Si oxides as raw materials. The originality degree consists of using Aa to incorporate the PCM's, instead of metal containers, while also manufacturing the Aa from locally recycled raw minerals. These geopolymer composites will be suitable for solar thermal energy storage in civil engineering applications (construction of building walls, facades, etc.-that can store solar energy during the day and release it overnight). The obtained products will be characterized from a microstructural, chemical, mechanical, thermal, and durability point of view to validate their properties and functionality. Also, as proof of concept, a lab-scale model will be manufactured and validated from a durability and efficiency point of view. The proposed method will provide an opportunity to reduce waste and emissions associated with the production of construction materials. Also, it will enable the use of locally sourced secondary and waste materials, thus reducing transportation costs and environmental impact. The proposed method will contribute to the integration of the circular economy in construction and reduce the consumption of virgin raw materials (aggregates and limestone).

Their proposal is focused on Construction Materials using wastes and producing eco-friendly materials. In this way, they are looking forward to an end-user company for their products.
